In our 2 day, 12-hour PER radio operator course, you will master the operation of onboard radios, portable VHF devices, locator beacons, and various other radio communication and electronic equipment used for navigation. 

Additionally, the course covers how to effectively handle distress, urgency, and safety communications, among other vital skills. 

This comprehensive training ensures you’re well-equipped to manage a range of radio communication scenarios at sea and is a necessary prerequisite for candidates aspiring to become PER Skippers or Captains.

 

On-Board Radio Operator Course Description

Our two-day classroom-based course is dedicated to teaching the essentials of operating a marine band VHF radio equipped with a Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) DSC controller. 

The course takes place over 2 days and includes 4 hours of theory and 8 hours of practice with our equipment in Estepona Port.

The course covers standard voice communication via VHF radio and delves into emergency procedures for using VHF radio DSC controllers, Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB), and Search and Rescue Transponders (SART). 

You’ll engage in realistic practice scenarios through a four-hour theory session and 8 hours of practical hands-on training with our extensive equipment. By the end of the course, you’ll gain confidence in using VHF Radios and a solid understanding of GMDSS equipment.

 Upon successfully passing the Short Range Certificate examination post-course, you will be fully qualified to operate a marine band VHF Radio.

Certificate issuing criteria

To be able to operate the radio and know the procedures required to use the radio.
